Power of Presence
Residential Retreat Led by Janka Livoncova
Friday October 11th – Sunday October 13th 2019
Attending a meditation retreat is a wonderful opportunity to detox from our full and busy lives and deepen one’s meditation practice, especially the powers of concentration, wisdom and compassion. The Center for Mindful Living is pleased to present an opportunity for our Chattanooga community to experience the benefits of a residential retreat.
This retreat will focus on the cultivation of mindfulness (Sati) as it is described in an ancient text outlining the four foundations of mindfulness - the foundational teaching upon which our modern mindfulness movement rests. We will be cultivating wise presence by bringing caring, curious and discerning attention to what is happening moment-to-moment. In our busyness, we often act from habit and reactivity instead of love and wisdom, creating needless suffering for ourselves and others. With mindful presence, we cut through habitual reactivity and access innate states of well-being, creativity and understanding.
The retreat will be held in noble silence* and will include alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation, mindful movement, instruction and reflection. The schedule will also include optional discussion periods to reflect on how to skillfully apply the wisdom of the practice in our daily life. This retreat is suitable for all levels of practice, however some meditation experience is suggested.
Held at St Mary's Retreat Center, located in Sewanee, TN on Mounteagle Mountain, approximately 45 minutes north of Chattanooga. Sited on a bluff overlooking the Cumberland Plateau, St. Mary's sits on 260 beautiful acres. It was originally founded as a convent and girls school and still possesses the peace that years of deep spiritual contemplation impart to a place. Providing serenity, beauty and chef prepared, locally sourced meals, it is the perfect place to rest and recharge. More information on accommodations can be found here.
Our retreat will begin with dinner at 6pm on Friday and end after lunch at 12pm on Sunday.
