Intro to Ayurveda: A Beginner's Journey to Holistic Health

Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old traditional Indian system of health. The sanskrit word ‘Ayurveda’ translates to the science of life and is an educational tool to help you learn how to heal yourself of “dis-ease”. In this introductory workshop you will learn about the three body/mind constitutions called “doshas”, and how they manifest themselves through your health. You will receive foundational lifestyle and diet recommendations based on your dosha, and self evaluation measures to balance your mind, body, and spirit.

Topics to be discussed:

  • The basics of Ayurveda and its ancient philosophy 

  • Balancing the 6 tastes, and the effects of food on the mind

  • Exploring your ‘dosha’ or Ayurvedic mind body type

  • Using the doshas to better understand and balance your body, mind, and spirit

  • Ayurvedic daily routines that you can incorporate into your busy life

  • Useful Ayurvedic herbs and spices that you may already have on your spice rack.

About Practitioner: Sadiqua Iman brings over 12 years of experience in massage therapy, dance and fitness, and Ayurvedic consulting.She sees massage therapy as an essential part of holistic health. In her private practice, What You Knead Massage & Wellness she focuses on raising awareness of healing as an art form just like painting and poetry. In 2019 Sadiqua opened an African and Indigenous wellness incubator to provide a space for people to experience more non-westernized health options. She is inspired by each and every one of her clients to collaborate on creating their best self. When not massaging you may catch Sadiqua teaching, performing, or facilitating workshops around the country.
