This class will begin with some gentle movement followed by a good, long restorative. Restorative Yoga is designed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which calms the body and mind. The poses are done on the floor and are held in stillness, typically for 5-15 minutes. Blankets, blocks, and bolsters assist the body to be comfortable. Props are provided, but if you have blankets and blocks to bring, they will be useful. Wear warm socks and even mittens if you tend to get chilly while lying still. Restorative Yoga poses were developed by yoga master BKS Iyengar for people who had injury, illness, or trauma but have come to be a popular practice for anyone wanting to relax deeply. It is sometimes confused with Yin yoga which is not the same, but the practices can be complementary.
