With a rapid increase in the number of young people being diagnosed with anxiety and depression, parents want to know why it is happening and what they can do to prevent such suffering in their children.
Join us for a workshop to learn how resilience is learned, how our own parenting approaches can help (or hurt) the development of resilience and some mindful ways that we can help manage our own stress and teach our children to do the same.
This workshop will cover:
- mindful techniques to manage stress,
- ways to interact that build resilience;
- how to teach your children gratitude and compassion.

Led by Nickie Soufleris, MD and Elizabeth Kabalka, MSSW.
Nickie Soufleris is a board certified psychiatrist in private practice here in Chattanooga, TN, where she combines medication management with psychotherapy and mindfulness training to help her patients navigate life's challenges. She received her medical degree at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and completed psychiatric residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She has been practicing meditation and mindfulness for the past 15 years. She and her husband have lived in Chattanooga for 25 years and have raised two sons who have been her primary teachers in parenting.
Elizabeth Kabalka is the Executive Director of the Center for Mindful Living. She educates the community about the benefits of mindfulness, teaches children basic mindfulness practices and uses her own mindfulness practice to personally navigate the parenting stress of raising her three boys, ages 13, 16 & 20. She received her Masters in Social Work from University of Tennessee, Knoxville and has served several social service organizations including Helen Ross McNabb Center and the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute.
